Traveling to the San Juan Islands is an enjoyable experience on a Washington State Ferry from either Seattle, Bellingham, or Anacortes, Washington. From Anacortes you can easily walk onto the ferry with your bike (vehicle parking fees at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal vary by season) or take your vehicle onto the island and rent bikes once you arrive.
Bike Rentals are available from our rental booth at Spencer Spit State Park. Our friendly guides will assist you in selecting and adjusting your equipment and can provide you with information and route suggestions, if desired. We have a variety of road and mountain bikes available, as well as kayaks and standup paddleboards – your 1-stop shop for adventure equipment! If you are arriving with a group of 4+ we suggest calling ahead to confirm availability. Need transportation? Groups may be able to arrange for pick-up and/or drop-off by calling our reservations office in advance at 425.883.9039
One of the most popular island destinations for bicyclists is Lopez Island – the first island stop on the Anacortes-San Juan Island Ferry route. Known as “the friendly isle” Lopez Island offers a surprisingly level terrain with Bike Rest Stops conveniently located along many of the main roads. As you travel across the island from destination to destination you’ll enjoy gently rolling hills, scenic views, waving islanders, soaring eagles, and magnificent sunsets.
We highly recommend that you request a free copy of The 2014 Lopez Guide (also available to download from the Lopez Chamber of Commerce website) or pick one up at the ferry booth or onboard your Ferry. This handy island guide provides an excellent map of the island – including services, such as restrooms – and places to visit. An additional feature of the Guide is a distance chart, showing the mileage between points of interest. This will help you to get the most out of your visit and see all that the island has to offer.
