On Day 1 you will be met on Lopez Island by your experienced and certified guides for group introductions and trip preparations for your overnight kayaking adventure. Your guides will instruct you in packing your clothing into drybags, loading the kayaks, and getting comfortable in the boats, before launching for a 2-3 hour scenic paddle on your way to the uninhabited James Island State Park. Today's activities include sea kayaking, clamming (in season), setting up camp, dining on the beach, and lots of photos. A delicious lunch and dinner will be provided by your guides.
After a night under the stars, we are ready for more island fun! Today's activities may include a scavenger hunt, a view hike, and some time on the beach discovering starfish, limpets, clams, anemones, and other inter-tidal surprises. Your guides will entertain you with interesting island history and lore, and are happy to lead you on an island exploration, as well as provide time for you to relax/explore on your own. In the afternoon, we'll launch the kayaks and enjoy the 2.5 mile paddle back to Lopez Island where we'll say our good-byes as you prepare for the return ferry trip to Anacortes. A hearty and delicious breakfast and lunch will be provided by our staff.
Extend your island adventure by adding a stay at an island B&B or cabin. Our staff will be happy to recommend suitable lodging.
We provide lunch and dinner on Day #1, and breakfast and lunch on Day #2. Your guides will prepare your meals from our well-stocked "outfitter" kitchen! You will enjoy delicious and filling Northwest-style fare, which may include clam linguine, fresh omelets apple pancakes, and more! If you have food allergies or special dietary concerns, please bring this to the attention of our staff when you register, so that we have sufficient time to alter the trip menu (when possible). For severe food restrictions it may be necessary for you to bring along some of your own meals - please call to discuss.
The San Juan Islands are a spectacular and secluded destination known for their natural beauty and relaxed “island time.” Comprised of over 700 islands, the San Juan Islands have become a popular paddling destination, and are regularly included in National Geographic Adventure’s Best Places… listings. The San Juan Islands also hold the #4 position on Travel and Leisure Magazine's list of the world's best islands. Located less than 3 hours from Seattle (and less than 4 hours from Vancouver, BC - home of the 2010 Winter Olympics) the islands provide an ideal blend of quaint harbors, artistic and historic sites, and outdoor adventure opportunities!
