What We'll Learn
We'll cover the necessities of river paddling, including... proper boat fitting, safety gear, wet exits, paddlestrokes, crossing eddy lines, maneuvering through currents, how to avoid common injuries, and next steps.
Who Should Sign Up
This courses is intended for paddlers who have a desire to gain basic river running skills, who are confident swimmers, and who are unable to commit to a longer course due to scheduling constraints. We keep our courses small with a high instructor to student ratio. Class size is generally 8 students or less than with a minimum of 2 instructors.
Logistics
Course takes place on the Skykomish River. Exact paddling location depends on the experience of the students and current water levels. Participants meet at the River House in Index where you will be outfitted with a boat and any other gear you may need. Please have a hearty breakfast before you arrive (or some early and enjoy one of our delicious River House breakfast sandwiches), and come prepared with water, snacks and a sack lunch for the day.
Class is approximately 8 hours in length.

Each paddler will need the following; (items with an * can be rented/purchased from Outdoor Adventures)
Whitewater Kayak* (must fit you well and be suitable for learning beginner skills)
Paddle*
Spray Skirt*
Life Jacket*
Helmet*
Full wetsuit (with drytop) or...
Drysuit (with adequate warm/insulation layers for underneath)
Footwear (neoprene booties* or paddling shoes that fit comfortably in your boat)
Course Equivalent: American Canoe Association (ACA) River Kayaking (Level 3)
